Information for Media

Courtroom Access

Courtrooms are generally open to the public. Journalists do not need special credentials, other than government-issued photo identification, to enter U.S. District Courthouses in the Eastern District of Arkansas.

General Order Number 54 prohibits electronic devices in the courthouses in the Eastern District of Arkansas beyond the security checkpoint, except as allowed in General Order Number 54 and Local Rule 83.2.

Local Rule 83.2 allows duly identified and authorized representatives of the print, radio, and television media to unobtrusively make audio tapes during trials and hearing in open court solely for the purpose of assuring the accuracy of the reports. Audio tape recordings made pursuant to this exception may not be broadcast or rebroadcast to the public, transferred or sold, or used for such commercial purposes.

To make proper prior arrangements for the making of an audio tape recording pursuant to Local Rule 83.2, please contact the presiding Judge’s chambers.
